The Legacy

Founded over 10 years ago by Brian and Alison Binnie, Denfind has a rich history of producing natural Scottish stone from its quarry in Monikie.

During the 19th and early 20th Centuries, Pitairlie Quarry was at the heart of the thriving Angus Sandstone industry, providing sandstone for use in many projects throughout the UK. Around the time of the outbreak of the First World War, the demand for Angus Sandstone dwindled and Pitairlie Quarry ceased operating, around 1915.

Nearly 90 years later, in 2001 Brian and Alison Binnie, the tenant farmers of nearby Denfind Farm, bought the land they farmed which included the disused quarry that lay into their land. Following a period of research, Denfind Stone Ltd started trading with the sale of its first load of dyking stone in 2004.

Over the past 12 years the business has continued to evolve and has gone from strength to strength. In January 2013, due to increased demand, Denfind relocated from the converted farm steading to a state of the art, purpose built office and production facility adjacent to the quarry. The new premises provide a great showcase for Denfind with its striking stone exterior, and use of sandstone paving in the offices as well as stone in the boardroom fireplace. The purpose built production facility has also allowed the business to improve efficiency and increase production capacity as Denfind looks to continue its expansion with its extensive and unique product range.

Working with an increasing number of clients across Scotland and the UK, Denfind remains fundamentally a local, family business, with a dedicated commitment to providing the highest level of quality stone products, customer care and service to our clients.

Sustainability

Denfind is committed to using environmentally friendly and sustainable methods at every stage of the stone production process – from quarry to delivery.

Denfind’s natural stone products use only a fraction of the energy compared to man made stone products and as such have much lower carbon emissions. Working tirelessly to maximise the benefits of natural stone production and to reduce waste at each stage of the manufacturing process, Denfind contributes to the energy efficiency of residential and commercial developments. Quarried and fully processed on site in Angus allows for maximum efficiency, and a lasting and positive environmental impact.

Additionally the business has installed solar panels and a biomass plant to maximise the energy efficiency of the plant and the ‘green credentials’ of the business.

Our Achievements

  • All aspects of the project went smoothly. Denfind confirmed lead time before order was placed and delivery matched this. Orders were confirmed promptly and materials were delivered to site when requested. Can’t ask for much more really!!

  • Right from the start of looking for suitable stone products for our new build, both the architects and ourselves have found everyone at Denfind to be most helpful and accommodating, ready to provide samples and even build small sections of wall to demonstrate the products.

  • Both my wife and I feel that choosing your product has really enhanced the look of our development. The house is fairly contemporary but it is still sympathetic with the historic location of this development. The contrast between the darker teak cladding and the Denfind stone really works well. We are really happy with the look that we have managed to attain for our new home.
