About Us

Our Company

Denfind Stone began trading in 2004 when Brian and Alison Binnie recognised that a disused Angus sandstone quarry on their farm had the potential to meet the growing demand for local, high quality, natural and aesthetically sympathetic building materials.

During the 19th and early 20th Centuries Pitairlie Quarry was at the heart of the thriving Angus Sandstone industry. This industry provided stone for use in many projects throughout the UK and Europe until around the outbreak of the first World War when demand dwindled, and the Quarry ceased production in 1915.

Since reopening the Quarry, the business has relocated into a purpose-built production facility, housing state of the art stone processing machinery which enables us to supply an extensive natural stone product range.

Denfind Stone is fundamentally a local family business, with a commitment to providing the highest level of quality stone products, customer care and service to our clients.

Sustainability

We are committed to using environmentally friendly and sustainable methods at every stage of the stone production process – from quarry to delivery.

Our natural stone products only use a fraction of the energy compared to man-made stone products and as such have much lower carbon emissions. We work to maximise the benefits of natural stone production and to reduce waste at each stage of the manufacturing process, and this contributes to the energy efficiency of residential and commercial developments.

Our own stone is quarried and processed on site in Angus allowing for maximum efficiency, and a lasting and positive environmental impact. Additionally, the business has installed solar panels and a biomass plant to maximise the energy efficiency of the plant and the ‘green credentials’ of the business.

Meet the Team

We strive to offer exceptional customer service and guidance to all clients, architects and builders to ensure that the most appropriate and cost effective solution to their needs is met.

Brian Binnie

Owner & Director

Brian started Denfind Stone back in 2001 following the purchase of the disused quarry. He has lived on, and farmed, Denfind Farm for over fifty years. The purchase of the old sandstone quarry adjacent to the farm gave him and Ali, his wife, the opportunity to diversify and meet the growing demand for natural building products that were sourced in Scotland.

Denfind Stone started as a small enterprise based in the old farm steading and farmhouse using the quarry waste from the 19th Century. Brian has developed it into an innovative company with purpose-built premises and state of the art processing machinery which now quarries fresh sandstone from the new Pitairlie Quarry to process into natural stone products, developed to meet the needs of a modern construction industry.
